James Strange joined the Royal Marines in 2002 as a musician (bass guitar, double bass, tuba), and embarked on a three year intensive training course and a six year musical career. During this time he also studied for a two year Diploma in Music through the University of Portsmouth.

On completion of his training, James was drafted to HMS Raleigh in Plymouth, where he developed his jazz and harmony skills through ensemble work aboard ships and various military engagements.

From Plymouth James was drafted to HMS Caledonia in Scotland, where in the summer of 2005, he took part in the internationally renowned Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

In 2006 he was fortunate to perform with the Massed Bands of HM Royal Marines at the Royal Albert Hall in front of 15,000 people over three nights. This same year also saw James perform BBb tuba on parade to Her Majesty the Queen at the opening of the Scottish Parliament, and the Horse Guards Parade in London.

James now lives in the city of Edinburgh, completing a BSc (Hons) at the University of Edinburgh, whilst still performing, teaching and arranging for the bass guitar.

Red Sky Records is excited to be working with an artist with such an original take on the bass guitar. Jim Strange's upcoming EP 'Classical Arrangements for Bass Guitar' showcases his versitility and originality as he takes the bass guitar into unchartered territories.
